To maintain good health of Adolescent boys and girls, iron tablets are being given at the schools and Anganwadi centers of all Blocks of Khordha district.

Similarly, all children and pregnant women have been immunized under Mission Indradhanush Programme. In the first phase, 611 women and 3016 children have been immunized at 1012 centres of Khordha district – said Dr. Saranga Prasad Mishra, the District Chief Medical Officer.

During April, May, June and July of 2015, in these 4 months, Indradhanush Programme was conducted for 7 days every month.  Under this Indradhanush Programme, those children who have never got immunization (left out) and those who left immunization program from the middle of course (drop out) – they were identified and given immunization every day for a week.

A special list was prepared and they were motivated and mobilized to come to Health Centre. And utilizing the service of Female Health workers of our Health Sub-centre, we immunized the children in the area where they were more in number. So in April, May, June and July - for 4 months, immunization programme was conducted. We achieved hundred percent immunization by mobilizing all the children. This Indradhanush Programme was very successfully conducted in 2015.

Under National Iron Plus Initiative (NIPI) programme, Iron and Folic Acid tablets and syrups are being given to the students of schools and Anganwadi centers of our Khordha district. Small tablets of Iron and Folic Acid are being given to the students of first standard to fifth standard, and big Iron tablets are being given to the students of sixth standard to tenth standard; and once in 7 days, every week this tablet is given after mid-day-meal. This is being given to prevent anemia due to lack of nutrition. As a preventive measure Iron tablets are being given. Students will take one big tablet each after mid-day-meal in front of the teacher. Children between first standard to fifth standard will take one small tablet each after mid-day-meal. For children of six months to five years, iron syrup is being given at the Anganwadi centers on each Tuesday and Friday. By administering Iron and Folic Acid, children are getting better intelligence and memory. They can concentrate better on study. This is essential for the development of their health.

Radio Engagement in 2015

The key strategic partners and district level representatives of the All India Radio, the largest public service broadcaster in the country from five low RI states of North India – Rajasthan, Punjab, Harayana, Uttrakhand and U.P. - came together for a detailed session on capacity building around the subject of Routine Immunisation.

The two-way discussion deliberated upon gaining insights and innovative means to train the spotlight on RI through impactful messaging and dissemination from representatives of the low RI state radio community as well as arm them with information and training to encourage discourse on RI in states through radio.

The radio interaction was aimed at creating stronger platforms to work together to reach out to people in the remotest parts of the country and provide them the information they need to ensure healthy futures for their children.

As an outcome of the workshop, here are some of the news clips from AIR Districts.
