Shri.J. P. Nadda, Hon'ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare & UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Mr. Amitabh Bacchan launched the Hepatitis B Vaccine Drive in Mumbai on 23 November 2015.
In India, approximately 10 lakh children, on an annual basis, run the lifetime risk of developing chronic Hepatitis infections, leading to life-threatening issues including liver cancer, liver failure and a possibility of premature death.
Despite continuous efforts, only 65% children in India had access to all vaccines during the first year of their life. Today, RI in India targets 27 million infants and 30 million expecting mothers each year.
UNICEF is extending its support to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) with the aim to create awareness about Hepatitis B and its pentavalent vaccine through uninhibited confessions led by UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.
In the recent National Launch of the Hepatitis B Vaccine Drive, the ‘Confessions from AB’, short PSAs created by Piyush Pandey, were launched by the MoHFW This special public health announcement documents Amitabh Bachchan’s personal journey as a Hepatitis B patient. Through this series of candid confessions, the aim was to create awareness about timely detection for individuals exposed to Hepatitis B and vaccines that could aid in its eradication.
